Since we began Japanese language education for our foreign staff, we have been widening that circle little by little.
The photo shows the family of one of our Nepali staff learning Japanese from their teacher at home in the company dormitory.
We offer the chance to learn Japanese free of charge not only to our foreign staff, but also to the families who live here in Japan with them.
Being able to speak Japanese makes an enormous difference to daily life in Japan.
Doing the shopping. Going to the hospital. Talking with a teacher at school. Greeting a neighbour. Looking for work.
Each of these everyday things, which are nothing to us, can become a very high wall simply because the language is unfamiliar.
Conversely, as Japanese gradually starts to make sense, those walls come down one by one.
There are more places you can go. There are more people you can talk to. There are more things you can do. And there are more things you can choose for yourself.
They have come all this way to Japan, so we want not only our staff but their families too to feel at ease living in this country.
And we hope the time they spend in Japan proves to be a good time in their lives.
Japanese language education is not simply a company benefit.
To learn a language is to widen a person’s world.
One Japanese word learned today becomes a small piece of confidence tomorrow, and those small pieces add up into something far greater in time.
Japanese changes their lives.
That is what we believe.
